  • Forever Boy” is written by Kate Swenson, mother of Cooper, who is now 13 years old. Cooper is diagnosed as severe and nonverbal on the spectrum. It is one of the first books I ever read on autism and is a wonderful place to begin! Kate also runs a Facebook page and website by the name of “Finding Cooper’s Voice”, with a subscriber hub named “Coops Troops” for more in-depth discussions.

 

  • What Color is Monday” is written by Carrie Cariello, mother of Jack, who is now 19 years old. Jack is autistic and currently attending a supported college program in the USA. Carrie has written several fantastic books about her family and Jack’s progress through the years. Carrie also runs a Facebook group and website by the name of “Carrie Cariello”, with a subscriber hub named “The Storyteller’s Group” for more in-depth discussions.

 

  • The Reason I Jump” is written by Naoki Higashida who is autistic and nonverbal. Dive into the autistic mind, in this wonderful and vivid book of short chapters exploring identity, family, relationships, education and society.

 

  • A Beautiful Nightmare” is written by Christine McGuinness, who talks about the difficulties and joys of raising three autistic children. While writing her book, she herself was diagnosed with autism.
